A Room Full of Potential
When you look at the pictures what do you see?
These are the students that attended this day.
In The Picture
What may be the obvious:
- Five girls and one boy.
- A parent that came to drop off her children but became so engaged, (not with her own children, but the other children.)
- In front of the boy is a list of the weekdays.
- Each child is different.
Let me give you a little backstory and share with you is not so obvious.
- This is a combined aged classroom today.
- Every child is working on a different assignment.
- Two of the children are working on homework assignments from school.
- One child’s grandmother told us he has a spelling test coming up and we created a ‘homework’ study assignment for the child.
- Two of the children are learning how to write in Cursive. The words they are given are positive words of affirmation. They are also required to create sentences with the words of affirmation. If the sentences are not written grammatically correct or if they are not written with a Spirit of Excellence, they are required to write the entire sentence over.
- One child is working on an assignment from GBOC’s Homework binder. (This is used when they ‘say’ they don’t have any homework assignments from school)
- One of the children loves to do Word Searches. We monopolize on this as it aides in building his concentration, focus and vocabulary.
What Is Also Not Obvious in This Picture
The children don’t always want to do what we ask them to do.
We have worked diligently to get them to this level of focus. (This picture was taken after we reminded them of why GBOC exists.
Sometimes they don’t like us. And yes, sometimes they tell us that. But we keep showing up!
The children pictured here along with those that are not pictured, are full of gifts, talents and skills. We sometimes marvel at how gifted they are.
We embrace their differences while helping them to embrace each other’s differences. We don’t allow any ideas of comparison of/to each other that will cause jealousy and conflict.
We love what we do!
In this picture is a room full of potential! We have orators, doctors, scientists, mathematicians, entrepreneurs, and musicians.
We will continue to walk alongside them to help them be all that they can be.
We invite you to come and visit us at GBOC. We also invite you to donate any amount to our program.
In August of 2025, we will take the children to visit the African American Museum in Washington, DC. Your donations will help us to make the trip successful.
Options to donate are attached.
Thank you in advance! GBOC
