Proverbs 15:4 A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.
To Be Wholesome
To be wholesome means to be good for one's health or well-being. Wholesomeness suggests good health, behavior and morals.
We've discussed that there is life and death in the power of the tongue. (Proverbs 18:21)
Facts About the Tongue
The average tongue is 4 inches long and weighs 70 grams.
The tongue consists of 8 muscles working together.
Your tongue print is as unique as your fingerprint.
How could such a small part of the body be so incredibly powerful?
The tongue contributes majorly to our ability to speak. The tongue has to be properly positioned in order to speak.
Now imagine a tongue that is positioned to speak unwholesome words into the lives of our children.
Unwholesome words that do not or could not create good self-esteem or moral conduct. Unwholesome words that corrupt their minds and cause them to have thoughts and behaviors that do not build but destroy.
On the opposite spectrum imagine a tongue positioned to speak positively in the lives of our children. Words that build their self-esteem. Words that cause them to feel free to explore dreams and ideas different from what their environment might hold.
Yes, the tongue is powerful! A tongue has the ability to grow the minds of our youth and catapult them into success.
Watching Our Tongue
As I child, my mother would admonish me to "Watch my tongue" if I was saying something that was not wholesome.
Imagination can be a powerful tool in helping us to understand just how powerful the tongue is. Take some time to imagine what your words can produce in the lives of your children.
Let's be intentional about having and using a wholesome tongue to help build good character and morals in the lives of others.
Take The "Tongue Challenge"
For the next three days, be intentional about speaking wholesome words into the lives of a child/children.
Then be intentional about watching their responses and change in behavior. Let's be remindful of having a wholesome tongue.
