They couldn't help but to notice when Dhamir's response to every question or instruction was "Unh Unh."
"Dhamir, come here."
"Unh, unh".
Of course, it was cute, the way he would say it. And when he'd catch the family giggling, the face he would make was priceless.
But where was he getting it from?
The answer came when both great-grandmother's heard him repeating the words spoken during their phone conversations.
Be Careful What You Say
Dhamir was only repeating the part of the conversation he overheard. We are responsible for building the character of our children.
This responsibility goes far beyond building the character of the children related to us. It includes building the character of the youth in our community.
He didn't understand what his "Unh unhs" actually meant "No" and it was evident when he gave the response when he really meant "Yes."
As Quiet As It Is Kept
We've seen social media posts that read something like this, "You always know when someone has been talking negative about you according to the way their children treat you."
Some conversations should not be had in the presence of our youth. It has the ability to play an important part in the character building in our children.
Being conscious of the words we speak around our children and youth will serve to help in building strong character in them.
Let's become mindful of our speech.
