The Year 2025
January of course is the time of year when we take time to think of having a better year than the previous one.
January is the peak month for yearly planner sales.
We make a list of New Year’s resolutions, we subscribe to fitness programs, purchase organization products (bins on top of bins oh my) in hopes that we will apply them to making our new year better.
Promising ourselves that we will be more intentional about putting them to use, expecting a change (most times we are unrealistic in our expectations).
The most popular list of new year's resolutions includes, becoming more physically active, losing weight, eating healthier and creating healthy boundaries in relationships.
Better time management, improving mental health and even learning something new.
The second Friday in January is called Quitters Day. It is the day that most people give up on their New Yeat’s resolution.
In writing this, I was thinking, “Now that’s not nice”. I felt a soft gut punch.
Where did that thought come from? Perhaps it comes from the point of transparency.
You see like so many others; I have abandoned my New Year’s resolutions within a short period of time. And by nature of numbers, I’ll include myself in the number on Quitters Day.

We at GBOC are taking a different approach.
We are evaluating what’s working best for us and building on it.
For instance, if you go to our FB page, you will see one of our mentees reading our Behavioral Contract.
This young person is only six years old and reads at a much higher grade level.
Why?
It’s because his parents have invested quality time in him by making visits to our public library in addition to requiring him to read at home before bedtime.
By doing this they have created in him a love for reading and knowledge. Reading out loud aids in building his self-esteem and communication skills.
We loved watching him read and add to his own touch of personality at the end.
We are going to launch a “Book Reading Program” at GBOC. We are yet working on the details, but we are positive that it will be beneficial to the children.
Question of the Blog- When was the last time you read a book?
