Visit Your Local Library
Back in the day, (if you’re familiar with the term ‘back in the day’) then you will know what I’m talking about….
Back in the day, the very first card we received with our name on it was our public library card.
I remember the excitement about having and holding my library card. Rubbing the raised imprint of my personal number brought such a feeling of responsibility.
“Don’t lose it,” I can still recall being told.
In fact, most library cards included this statement:
Is responsible for all use made of this card. Which must be presented when library materials are borrowed. A charge will be made for replacing this card.
Girls and Boys of Character understand the importance of visiting our public library.
The Waukegan Public library has a long history, founded on November 24, 1845.
The services they offer include:
Computer services
E-resources
Adult Literacy
Online Classes and Labs
In the Children’s Department, The Comfort Zone: A Sensory Room for Kids, Families and Friends is located. It provides a controlled environment that supports individuals’ self-regulation and empowerment, it promotes mindfulness, skill development, creative expression and resilience.
When DJ visited this room, he was so amazed with the tactile activity panels, bubble tubes and cushion walls.
His explanation of the fidgets allowed him to play, use his imagination in a safe environment.
Utilzing The Benefits of Our Public Library
With such a short walk to the library, we’re at the library.
When the opportunity arises, we take advantage of the programs and activities of our library.
We also allow the mentees to be creative in the play area by creating and performing their short plays or stories.
It’s amazing to watch them work together crafting the plots of their plays and assigning each other the characters.
Two of our mentees recently created a Diamond Palace of Excellence while at the library.
Providing a safe place and the freedom to be creative and explore allows the mentees to use their minds and gifts.
When was the last time you visited the library?
