Taking A Moment To Be Thankful…Early
What Are You Thankful For?
Have you ever taken the time to sit and really think about what you’re thankful for?
Thanksgiving will be celebrated on November 28, 2024. It will be here before we know it!
The weeks prior to and the night before the stores will be crowded by consumers purchasing items needed for the great feast that will take place.
All The Preparation Involved
For some of us, we’ll decorate our homes with Fall decorations, colors of orange, browns and greens.
Grandma’s and Big Momma’s will be receiving phone calls asking how to prepare the dishes that only they could make. Because you know they always “Put their foot in” whatever they brought to the table.
The older generations started their preparation for Thanksgiving, weeks in advance. The greens have been picked, cleaned and frozen ready to be heated up. The delicious pies and cakes are baked and ready for cutting a couple of days before.
And don’t even think about asking if you can cut just a small sliver of one before the day.
Numerous phone calls with invitations to join others for Thanksgiving dinner will be made. Travel arrangements will be made far in advance. Most corporations will allow their employees to use Thursday and Friday as holidays. A four-day weekend or for some, they have taken off the full week scheduling it as soon as allowed by their employers. Usually those with the most seniority get the first choice.
But Do We Really Take Time to Be Thankful?
I know we’re going to say grace before we bite into the juicy turkey. And please don’t let Uncle Louis take too long saying the grace!
When he’s done, we delve into the deliciousness of the spread we have before us. Casual conversations, maybe about the game that’s coming on.
But do we really share what we’re thankful for? Do we really take the time to have everyone seated to share what they are thankful for?
Maybe we should. I’m not sure if it’s because the longer we live, the more people we meet. So, as we hear of their deaths and passing on, it’s becoming more of a truth that we won’t always be on this earth.
Maybe this Thanksgiving season, we should take and make time to share with others why we are thankful for them. This could leave a forever great memory in a life.
Imagine how kind words spoken would make a difference.
This season let's make it a goal to tell people that we are thankful for them.
GBOC staff will start early and kick it off.
We are GBOC are thankful for you!
