You Got This!
Believe it or not, for a lot of people, the ability to answer this question can be very challenging and difficult.
What do you do well?
When asked this question, the answer if given at all, is preceded with a long pause.
This question usually comes up when we’re in the interviewing process and asked, “What are your strengths?”
Let’s try it, ask yourself these questions:
- When was the last time you thought about what you’re good at?
- List three to five things you’re good at.
- How long did it take you to create the list?
It might be easier for some to ask others what you’re good at.
Visons and Goals
During our Vision and Goals sessions, we encourage our Mentees to journal. Of course, in the beginning of the sessions, they try to rush through it. And we are addressing this individually based on their journal responses.
What is amazing about this is that it allows us to give them individualized attention while still focusing on them as a whole.
After selecting a motivational sticker (which is turned over so they can’t pre-read it) they must write what they understand about it.
Again, we are sharing their journal pages because we were given permission to.
The journal page you see shows the process of challenging the Mentee to dig deeper, causing him/her to take time to reflect on their answers.
This has proven to build their confidence level as well as change their attitudes about writing.
The Vision and Goal sessions have allowed us to have great discussions as the Mentees eagerly share what they have written.
Take notice of this journal page attached. The sticker she blindly selected was so appropriate for the day. (God knows.)
This Mentee has great leadership abilities, and they often proactively help others. The sticker she randomly selected said, “You Got This”, and that same day someone said to her, “You got this”.
Imagine receiving two positive affirmations in one day!
When asked to list four things she was good at, she went about and beyond and excitedly listed six!
We invite you to take the challenge and answer the questions above. Let us know in the comments how it went for you.
Remember…. You Got This!
