It's In There
There are several things on the inside of all of us.
There are also experiences that we all may have in our lifetime.
The list includes but is not limited to the following:
purpose, desires, dreams, character, qualities, personality, gifts, strengths, weaknesses, and emotions.
Some experiences include, accomplishments, disappointments, heart aches, fights, disagreements, wins and losses.
In this blog, we will share with you some of our observations we've seen in our mentees.
The first observation we've noticed is the increase in their engagement during our Black History lessons.
Our discussions after the lessons are more in depth.
When we ask, what the question, "What did you gain the most", we've noticed that the children begin to build upon each other's answer.
There is nothing quite like seeing the excitement of raised hands, willing to share.
The Questions
The youngest child in the group has a penchant for spotting details in the lessons. He has no hesitation in asking those questions that make you think to yourself, "How did his young mind see that?"
It is in those moments that we capitalize on their uniqueness and help develop them.
We do this by continuing to build upon their strengths and stretching their vocabulary.
During our group discussions we use our Black History lessons to develop problem solving skills based on our six pillars.
We know and understand that our children have good on the inside of them, and we do what we can to bring it out.
