Who are you?
When was the first time you were asked that question?
A person's character can be defined as the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual.
Our character is also who we are on the inside, what we stand for and serves as a foundation of who we are.
Take a few minutes to answer the following questions:
Who are you on the inside?
What do you stand for?
If you're having a challenging time answering the questions, imagine the challenges our mentees might experience.
Some synonyms of character are:
personality, nature, disposition, individuality, identity, distinctiveness, uniqueness, makeup, mentality and temperament.
In our series Discovering Character, we provide a safe, non-judgmental environment for our youth to answer these questions.
There are many benefits to discovering who we are on the inside and what we stand for at an early age.
One of the top benefits is that is lessens the chances of gang involvement. One of the reasons for joining a gang is lack of identity, security and sense of belonging.
Our safe and non-judgmental environment allows our mentees the freedom to honestly answer the questions without fear of rejection or ridicule.
Girls and Boys of Character are committed to helping our youth discover and build their character which in turn builds strong communities.
These questions can also be asked during family time or one-on-one with your children.
